| Lesson Policies Thank you for your interest in Broad Street Music as your home for music education. Please take a few moments to read our general lesson policies. Broad Street Music reserves the right to change the policies at any time. Lessons are half hour sessions, once per week, unless otherwise arranged with your instructor. Lesson payments are due at the beginning of the month and should be for the entire month. This protects both the instructor and your lesson slot. Alternative lesson payment arrangements must be discussed with your instructor. All lesson payments are to be made at the front counter. Checks are to be written in the instructors' name. Sorry, we do not accept credit, debit, or gift cards for lesson payments. A written receipt will be provided. As a private contractor to the store, instructors may set their own rates. Advanced instructors may charge an advanced fee. Broad Street Music supports the instructors decision to do so. Please give a six hour notice if you must cancel your lesson. Less notice may result in the instructor charging for that lesson. Most stores require twenty four hours, or do not allow any cancellations. We, though, realize that situations occur and we try to be fair. A call to your instructor or the store is all that is asked. Voice mail before store hours is also acceptable. Frequent cancellations will result in charging for missed lessons. Everyone at Broad Street Music supports an open door policy. Parents may sit in, or walk in on a lesson at any time. Glass fronted doors on the lesson studios, while not as soundproof, help protect the student, as well as the instructor. Please ask if you have any questions or concerns about our policies. Thank you. |
| Survival Guide Please remember that taking music lessons, like any new endeavour, takes both time and patience. You will not pick up an instrument and be able to play like your favorite artist in just a few lessons. You may experience sore fingers, hands, mouth, or other body part as you adapt to the new positions required for playing correctly. This will go away with time and practice. Remember that ninety percent of your lesson is the practice you do at home. We recommend several short practice sessions during the week rather than trying to cram your practice into one long session. Much to the dismay of some students, but to the delight of parents, all of our instructors require that the student learns basic music theory. Advancing the student's knowledge of theory is encouraged throughout their time with us. We also encourage the instructors to do this in a manner that is fun, yet informative. While taking lessons at Broad Street Music, you will notice our pets roaming about. Timbre is our newest addition and is a Tonkinese cat. Ask your instructor what 'timbre' means. Chaos has a ton of personality, but please, beware of his claws. He is not intentionally mean, but will use his claws in play. Duffy is the African Congo Grey Parrot. His cage is behind the counter and is strictly off limits. All pets are vaccinated as required by law. You may bring your pet to visit, however, they must be vaccinated, on a leash, and you are responsible for accidents. Finally, a note to parents. We are very protective of our students. Younger students are not allowed to leave the building until the person responsible for picking them up arrives. Siblings of students are welcome to stay and visit during lessons, however...the store is not a play area. Children must not be disruptive, must be supervised, and must not play with merchandise, especially guitars, as they tend to rotate off the hooks. The parent or guardian is responsible for any damage. Broad Street music reserves the right to reprimand any child misbehaving if the parent does not. Questions? Ask us! |
